Join Norcal Rafters as we enjoy the start of some great rafting weather and take on the entire South Fork of The American Riverstarting at Chili Bar and ending at Salmon Falls Bridge. This is a 21 mile adventure, running such rapids as Meat Grinder, Trouble Maker and Hospital Bar! WhiteWater Photography will also be at Troublemaker, Satans Cesspool, and Hospital Bar in order to accurately catch your experience "frame by frame" so you can take your trip home with you.
We will be stopping for lunch at Lotus Park, and we`ll have hamburgers and hotdogs if you're hungry :-)
Once the run is complete, we'll carpool back to WhiteWater Photography in Coloma and all of us will have a chance to view pics from TroubleMaker, Satans Cesspool, and Hospital Bar so you'll have record of your fantastic experience.
This season is being called a "high water" season due to the extensive snowfall in the Sierras. The usual speed of the river (measured in CFS or cubic feet per second) was around 1750 cfs last year, but this season the average has been in the high 4000'sto low 5000's! You can check out the current flow at www.norcalraft.com to see what you're in for!
Because of the high water this season, Class V PFDs (lifejackets) and wetsuits will most likely be mandatory all season. NorCal Rafters will supply the Class V PDFs as well as the paddles, but you will be responsible for your wetsuit.
You can rent a wetsuit at:
California Canoe & Kayak
11349 Folsom Blvd, Suite C
Rancho Cordova, CA 95742
(916) 851-3600
Or if CCK is out, please call Sierra Outdoor Center and ask for Guy or Courtney to reserve a wetsuit.
Sierra Outdoor Center
440 Lincoln Way Auburn,Ca
(530) 885-1844
Wetsuits are $15 per day. We will supply the Class V PDFs as well as the paddles
Come on out and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the South Fork of the American, and be prepared to have LOTS OF FUN in the Coloma sun. Just bring yourself and big smile!
